Last night I went out to a goth event with some friends of mine with the main aim of taking some pictures. I got the pictures we wanted pretty quickly and so had the rest of the evening to play around.

I had fun experimenting with flash coupled with long exposures, which gives a sharp image coupled with light trails.
This is something I think I might try to use more as I found some of the effects quite pleasing. I didn’t get anywhere near as many pictures as I would like as the club was so dark that I was having to focus manually and even then was only hitting about 1 in every 3 pictures…

Last weekend I went to see my friend Elizabeth in an armour festival. This involved various people in traditional Japanese armour putting on quite an impressive display. I took the camera and am slowly trawling through the photographs. Some of them will make their way into the galleries, but for now take a look at the contact sheets. I’m almost halfway through the pictures, but it is taking a lot longer than I thought and if I plan on doing event photography properly, I need to streamline the workflow as the current one is not entirely practical.

Following up to my last post, I finally got a bank account and now a phone number sorted out, so I am fully registered up. Today, it is fair to say, was one of those where I earn my money. Today I had two missions, firstly to get a mobile phone and secondly to open a bank account. In Japan you can get phones anywhere but finding a bank open is a bit trickier, so after a bit of cursing that I was still in bed at noon, I went to Yokohama, the nearest place that had a branch of the bank I wanted to join that was open on Saturdays. Well the site is starting to come together, I’ve started to add content to the FaQs though if anyone has any additional information, please do send it to me.

I considered having a wiki-style page but figured the effort involved in modifying the scripts and then trying to maintain it would be more trouble than it would be worth, especially as I don’t see the information contained needing updating all that frequently.

I am contemplating having a messge board but, frankly I think that my entire readership will talk to me on a daily basis anyway, however implementing one should be reasonably easy, so if you think it’s a feature we’re missing, say so…

Right off to write some more content..

I found my work visa notification in my mailbox this evening, which means I can finally get things like a phone and a bank account, which will make my life so much easier. Without the visa and Gaijin Card you are almost a pseudo person, unable to do most things which recquire you to have ID….

Yay for Visas…

Now we have a slightly different set of buttons, with a cool gradient effect, ok they still look horrible, but it’s a gradiated horridness.

The gallery is slowly filling the main delay is selecting pictures, once pictures have been chosen it’s a pretty swift process to get them up.

Still no progress on the faq, section, I haven’t really nailed down quite what I want in there, definitely a gyms guide, a “so you want to teach English?” guide, maybe a set of top 10 lists, an A-Z glossary and anything else I can think of. Suggestions please, on a postcard….

I also need to decide upon a set of fonts for the page so I shall be hunting the web looking for pages with nice fonts, sets to steal.

Well I’ve been solidly working on the gallery pages and am now at the point where I need to start adding images which is a reasonable place to be at now. I will fill in the blanks at work on Monday. I need to start working on the FAQ section, that is the next big project…..

Yesterday was my Birthday, I did very little of excitement, I do need to start networking here more as I hardly know anyone…
