Poor Performance

Filed under: Uncategorized — Paul @ 11:11 pm

They say your best night on the couch is worse than your worst night on the mats, largely I agree though every now and again I run into a night like tonight which makes me wonder if this is not entirely true.

I’d love to make excuses about how I was tired, sick or hungry, but frankly I just utter failed to focusor stick to the gameplan and so I got smashed and picked up an injury.

I find nights like this, where absolutely nothing goes right, really harmful as I find confidence very important to my game. Maybe because I’m a bit too passive in the first place, but if I am lacking in confidence I am too timid and don’t commit to moves fully which is disasterous. On the other hand I have runs where I am absolutely awesome, and noone can stop me. There is now a huge amount of pressure on for the next time I train as I need to come back with a dominant performance or else it could signal the start of a downward spiral which will lead to me losing more, thus being less assertive causing more defeats.

Probably more troublesome than the fact that I got beat up, is the manner in which I was worked over. I completely forgot about all of the ‘rules’ and kind of flopped about aimlessly, trying for ridiculous submissions which were not only unlikely but usually resulted in me giving up whatever mediocre position I had. I guess the silver lining is that I am forced to go away and re-focus on the ‘rules’ and will make sure to strictly apply them next time I train…
